The Logical Memory subtest is available in the Fourth Edition of the Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS-IV). The Digit Span Forward, Backward, and Sequencing subtests are included in the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV). Digit Span scatter scores are clearly more desirable than scaled scores in the search for cognitive correlates of personality variables. The Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised (1987) is out-of-print and is no longer available. Digit Span scaled scores alone did not differentiate the groups. Since heroin addicts appear more interpersonally distant and anhedonic for non‐drug‐related experiences, this finding was according to expectation. This test requires children to recall a sequence of digits in the same order (DSF) or in reverse order (DSB) that the experimenter aurally given them. The subjects fell into one of five levels of intelligence, 5059, 6069, 7079, 8089, and 9099, based upon Full Scale WAIS IQ. The former group attained significantly higher average positive Digit Span scatter. Digit span is a subtest of the Japanese version of the WISC-IV ( Wechsler, 2003 Ueno et al., 2010 ), which consists of DSF and DSB, and is used to assess auditory WM, attention, and concentration. WAIS Digit Span scores of 50 subjects were evaluated to determine the relationship of Digits Forward and Digits Backward to intellectual functioning in an intellectually subnormal population. Forty‐two heroin addicts were compared with 41 neurotic depressive patients. A popular working memory test that is used in many cognitive and neuroscience research labs. As part of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale, the testing was initially created to measure working memory and attention. More sophisticated tests such as the Binet-Simon, Stanford-Binet, and Wechsler-Bellevue tests (Wechsler Intelligence. Negative scatter or Digit Span scaled scores considerably below the mean of other WAIS subtest scores have been viewed by some investigators as indicating depressive symptoms. The Digit Span Test Introduction The Digit Span test was created by James McKeen Cattell he worked in Leipzig at the laboratory of Wilhelm Wundt. Such positive Digit Span scatter seems to be a correlate of an interpersonal detachment syndrome characterized by superficial relationships and anhedonia. There is some evidence that a Wechsler Digit Span scaled score well above the mean of an individual's other WAIS subtest scores is diagnostically significant. The Digit Span subtest requires test-takers to repeat strings of digits in forward order (forward digit span), as well as in reverse order (backward digit span). The WISC-R is one of the best normed and most highly respected measures of child intelligence (although it should be noted that the Digit Span component is one of the two parts of the Wechsler scale not used in establishing IQ tables). Heroin addiction and the Wechsler digit span test Heroin addiction and the Wechsler digit span test Reliable Digit Span, based on the Digit Span subtest of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, is an example of a measure that was derived based on research following test publication. The Memory for Digit Span assessment, a component of the Wechsler Intelligence Scales for Children-Revised (WISC-R), is a measure of short-term memory for children aged seven and over (Wechsler 1974).
